I would like to take this opportunity to answer some of the questions, concerning the Southside Men's League (SML), that come up on a regular basis.
The Southside Men's League currently has two outdoor seasons, Summer & Winter. The Summer season usually runs between May and August and is played during the week, while the Winter season runs from January through April and is played on Saturdays. Currently, all SML games are played at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex (HRSC) behind the Virginia Beach Amphitheater.
SML is a highly competitive, men's only, club team based organization with Premier & Men's Open divisions. Players are recruited by independent captains, the league does not take individual registration. Each team can carry up to 22 players. The typical season, unless otherwise noted, is made up of 9 games (weather permitting) with a single elimination tournament for each division at the end of the season.
Captains are responsible for collecting team fees, but can chose for the league to collect individual registration for its players online. The team fee covers costs associated with the season including, but not limited to: Field Rental & Maintanence, Referee Fees, Supplemental Insurance, various Administrative Fees, and more.
